Brief Brand History for Franck Muller
Unlike
many other top tier manufacturers, Franck Muller is not a brand that
started in the 1700’s. It was actually founded in 1992 and has risen
fast to become one of the most recognizable watch lines in existence.
Out of watch school in the early 80’s, Franck Muller obtained a job
repairing fine quality pocketwatches for museums and private
individuals. It was during this period that Muller came in contact with
some of the finest, complicated timepieces ever produced and was thus
inspired to eventually produce his own masterpieces. Franck Muller
produces at least one world watch premiere every year and have done so
since 14 years.
product line overview
Franck
Muller watches have been a hot commodity for the past 4 years. Their
most popular line is called the “Cintre Curvex” which has a classic
Tonneau shape. Muller also makes a rectangle shaped case called the
“Long Island” which is very reminiscent of the 1920’s Patek/Tiffany.
Muller also offers a wide range of complications in all case shapes,
sizes, and colors. Just to name a few, The “Master Banker” is a 3-time
zone watch, and the “Crazy Hour” is a novel jump hour.
essential watches "market assessment"
Some
argue that Muller’s retail prices are a bit on the high side. A Franck
Muller stainless steel chronograph sells for $5000 more than a S/S
Rolex Daytona. Recently prices for most Muller’s softended as inventory
was dumped all across the internet. Most notably, one online discounter
(who we will not name) had at one time almost 150 different models at
prices reaching 50% off. Of course, this is never good for the resale
value of any brand. Slowly, after almost 3 years the market is
rebounding and prices for Muller are getting stronger. Normal internet
discounts are 20 - 30% off.
